“Intelligent Speed Governing System”

“Intelligent Speed Governing System”

INTRODUCTION

1.1 PRESENT THEORIES AND PRACTICES

Research on fully and partially automated roadway systems is being conducted in most developed countries. The major technologies are unlikely to be introduced before the end of the century and some are unlikely to be implemented within two decades. These systems offer excellent opportunities to control vehicle speeds and movements in order to avoid accidents but they rely, of course, on sophisticated features built into the roadway and vehicle. Progress with these systems should be monitored but they are unlikely to offer any significant short-term solutions. But various types of accident are occurred on express highway road, highway road, off road just because of small uncertain activities. Rash driving, system failure, collision due to obstacles, exiting speed control limit etc. are just some causes of accidents. For prevention of this accident, the government made some rules. Such as helmet, seat belt compulsion etc.

Speed control at a particular type of road is also necessary to avoid accidents. For this, there is no any system to control the speed of the vehicle. That’s why there is a need to invent such a system which controls the speed of vehicle automatically at a given limit at particular limiting distance. If this concept methodology system is possible, the problems related to traffic as well as accidents due to collision will be controlled. Now it is possible to control or set the speed of a vehicle at a given limit on the roads like highways, express high ways and any area where the speed limit is desired by the technique suggested in the methodology described in this paper.

In India mostly 65 km/hr. limit for high ways and below 80km/hr. limit for express highways. This developed system is applicable for any speed limit which can be set or controlled as per the roads. In this paper, the proposed methodology is suggested that one such kind of speed control system based on magnetic strips for the highway. The various design components of this system are the magnetic strips which are fitted on highway roads and a magnetic sensor located below the bumper on chassis which will recognize the magnetic field on roads, the programmable MCU which process signals from various components and send the signal to control the throttle valve/fuel pump, speedometer and vehicle.

1.2 SCOPE OF THE WORK

  • Obstacle detector.
  • Speed Limiting or Speed Locking.
  • Good system for managing traffic in more populated countries like India.
  • One of the best trends in the automobile sector.

1.3 OBJECTIVES

  • To improve the performance of an automobile.
  • To control the speed of the vehicle into the heavy traffic.
  • To reduce strain on the traffic police by using this speed controlling method.

1.4 METHODOLOGY

Many accidents are at least partially caused because of rash driving. This can happen due to many reasons: poor judgment on the part of the driver, poor driving by the driver. Once the driver has lost control it is very difficult to drive the vehicle. So to avoid the road accidents and kept the speed control of vehicles is under government, and also to prevent loss of valuable property, it is necessary to have some safety system which will be the permanent solution for the above problems. Therefore, an innovative concept is suggested by which it can control the speed of vehicle automatically at given limit at particular limiting distance and practically by the developed concept system, the problems related to traffic as well as accidents due to collision will be controlled.

In this project, the proposed developed system is a kind of speed control system based on magnetic strips for the highway and where the speed control limit is desired. In this developed system, the various magnetic strips are marked on highway and vehicles will have a magnetic field detecting sensor located below the bumper on chassis of the vehicle which will recognize the magnetic field on roads and accordingly maintain the vehicles speed in that particular limit. In this way, this system reduces the road accidents and gets driving comfort for the driver because of limited speed.

2) WORKING

This is a four-wheel vehicle with cover and having DC motor and batteries for powering. This is a small vehicle and to move ahead we have provided a motor which is controlled for on to move ahead and off by the buttons. It is a small model of width 200 mm and length 500 mm and height 80 mm made to show the demonstration. The vehicle can be taken front and back by the button connecting the motor for clockwise and anticlockwise direction rotation to move front and back.

The motor is having two speeds now, one normal (high) speed which works by the 12 volts battery and speed governed type is slow which runs on 6 volts supply which is automatically connected by the control circuit. The vehicle is having the drive mechanism and it is controlled by button control handheld in the small box and is driven on the road. At the city entry and exit roads connecting the city will have the magnetic strip on the road and any vehicle crossing this line will trigger the speed governing the system.

The magnetic sensor is provided in the vehicle which will get the sensing input when it crosses the road of the city which through control will control the speed will decide whether to reduce the speed while entering the city and release the control on speed automatically. Since we are providing the motorized drive the motor speed is getting reduced when entering the city through any roads and will release the control of speed when moving out of the city.

3) ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES

  1. Avoids all other measures which need physical monitoring of speed.
  2. This is automatic.
  3. No police enforcing required.
  4. Cost saving in monitoring.
  5. No mistakes in monitoring and enforcing.
  6. Avoids placing the camera or held laser guns for detecting speeding vehicles.
  7. Cost of road accidents is more.

DISADVANTAGES

  1. Required continuous electric supply, when driving.
  2. It is required four batteries.

APPLICATIONS

  1. The suitable vehicles are Cars, Buses, and Trucks.
  2. This system employs an electric car and an internal combustion engine.
  3. This system we can use all automobile vehicle like electrical vehicle and IC engine vehicles.
